‘On the verge of a new and exciting website my attention is being pulled in and focused. To stop wondering around on the outer edges and really get to the point. What is this Sara Abbott about and what is her purpose?’
The beginning of new things brings with it an opportunity to have a right good clear out. The New Year, a new home even a new bag! And so with my lovely new site, we’ve focused on quality rather than quantity, as my work has changed and improved over the years only newer pieces will be shown and in addition to the dog portraits for which I am most well-known, I’m bringing to the fore the other genres that now have equal time in my thoughtsand on my easel.
This spring has seen me working with PAWS (Pennine Animal Welfare Society) a wonderful hands on charity here in my adopted South Pennine town of Todmorden. It’s a very important part of my work to give something back and to date I have raised £650 for dogs in rescue and we’ve just launched a raffle to win a portrait too, please visit my FB page for tickets.
As my local woods fill with bluebells and the swallows return I’m drawn again to landscape painting and am planning works ‘en plein air’. With my new bicycle and trailer for easel, paints and canvasses, I’ll be heading out in the coming weeks. On the flipside and very much indoors, I have a small exhibition in July of nudes which I’m currently working on too.
Most excitingly I’ve been working with the wonderful Johnny Kingdom of Exmoor on a series of hand embellished prints from my paintings of his beloved stags – watch this space!
Feeling very organised and tidy, I’ll sign off now – Sara x
